P.D. Ayer & Co. Series 7 postcards, as enumerated by Mike Smith in his latest book, The Canadian Patriotic & Heraldic Postcard Handbook 1897–1945, illustrate an image of the British Bulldog on a Union Jack with the text “What We Have We’ll Hold”. This image and text was popularized in Canada earlier by J.C. Wilson & Co. in their series of patriotic postcards and covers issued at the time of the Boer War. The same image went on to see use in on patriotic cards and covers in WWI & WWII.
