This card is card no. 2 from Series 5, as enumerated by Mike Smith in his forthcoming book Canadian Patriotic,Heraldic & Royalty Postcard Handbook 1898–1938. The cards in the series bear an image of the British Bulldog on a Union Jack with the text “What We Have We’ll Hold”. This image and text was popularized in Canada earlier by J.C. Wilson & Co. in their series of patriotic postcards and covers issued at the time of the Boer War. The same image went on to see use in on patriotic cards and covers in WWI & WWII.

Another copy of this card (shown below) sold in Maresch Auction 461 in October 2010 for $220. Interestingly, the Bulldog & Flag image was printed to the left side of that card, rather than to the right, as shown above. The card was postally used August 29, 1905 within the USA.
